MASTERING PHOTOGRAPHY
An intensive hands-on tutoring program to help you master your camera

I have developed this course to help you get up and running as quickly as possible with your camera gear. Even if you are quite advanced some of these workshops will help you upgrade your skills. If you are wondering what to buy this is also perfect to help you make the best decision.

The workshop groups are very small to allow as much one-to-one time as possible. The idea is to help you understand your camera and to be able to shoot and capture what you want through a hands-on approach.

While there may be a particular focus to the workshops (eg the first focus is ‘landscape’) the content is more about mastering the medium than the theme – although the theme is also important.

All workshops follow a related theory lesson to ‘demystify’ some of the key concepts and provide the background you need to improve your photography. The ‘theory’ is actually not too heavy, but just enough to help you take control of your camera and understand digital photography.

While you will certainly benefit from participating in all workshop/lecture session from start to finish each unit is also designed to be reasonably independent.

Outcomes for theory and workshop sessions

Theory sessions provide an overview of photograph including:

  • what you are trying to achieve
  • basic controls on your camera
  • overview of the FOCUS THEME
  • understanding total workflow from object and idea to shooting and printing your photograph

Emphasis is on developing broader conceptual knowledge you can easily apply to any subject or situation.

The workshops will help you apply your knowledge to master your camera and shoot what you want, using the FOCUS THEME as your subject.

Emphasis is always on understanding and mastering your camera and lens. The FOCUS THEME will help you apply your skills to something that interests you in particular and to broaden your skills generally.

2011 Term 4 Theory and workshop session timetable (subject to change)
I am currently planning some more basic sessions as well as some more advanced sessions and some very exciting longer field trip/workshop sessions for later this year.

The theory sessions will encompass all aspects of photography, from understanding light and your subject; the lens, the camera and the sensor; to computers, software and how to use process your image, how to make the best print and how to store and manage your digital files.

Theory will also include understanding how an image communicates information and how we 'read the visual'.

Cost of lessons

Each unit includes the theory session AND the hands-on workshop. Unit cost is $190 and includes lunch.

Bokking in for another session is less 15% so that is just $160. Coming along to all for is just $500 for the lot!

At the moment I am setting a lower age limit to at least 15 years old (but no upper limit!).

If you have under 15's and you are interested please let me know. I may be able to organsie something for the holidays.

I have been asked so many times to provide some tuition. So finally I have developed this fantastic course. The emphasis is on giving you the right amount of 'theory' to help you understand how to get the best results as quickly as possible. The workshops are then a great chance to try out your knowledge and have someone show you how everything works.

Every camera is different and every camera has it's own logic (believe it or not!). I will help you learn to use your camera so you have the confidence and knowledge to shoot more successfully.

Please note that while many lower-end consumer cameras are pretty limited in what they can do there is still much you can learn about photography with this program. Plus, if you are thinking of buying or upgrading this information will also be invaluable. Making the right investment up-front is critical.

Contact me ASAP with an expression of interest or to book. The first is VERY SOON.
